Strahan!

As sports celebrations go it's just okay; as not-my-kid celebrations go it is exceptional.

The first time the New York Giants used the "jumpshot" move it was obviously pre-meditated, and the entire defense scrambled to participate like a group of middle school girls flaunting an inside secret from their slam book. It quickly spread through the NFL, into the NCAA and finally to the happy half of that park bench somwhere in New York City.

Since I don't find the celebration particularly cool or original, I'm curious if there is a story or, hopefully, a "shout out" that helps explain how it was propeled to default celebration status.

Anyone?

The meaningless jump shot celebration will fade away just like the "raise the roof," the throat-slash and the macarena.

Less chicken dances, more quality football.

As far as not-my-kid celebrations, it isn't quite right. After all, the fella clearly missed his "shot."

Jordan's Finals jumper against Utah could have been partially responsible for it's current status.

The jumpshot celebration is most likely inspired by the rap song, "Ballin", by Jim Jones. It's really popular right. You can go here to listen to it http://www.capostatus.com/

You'll probably realize that you've heard it a million times.

I haven't conferenced with Strahan or anything, but I have no reason to think it's anything else. Hell, when I first heard the song, my first instinct was to do the jumpshot too. But I'm a crazy Black person. We love new dance moves! If you pay attention, you'll notice that a lot of the players do it kinda slow, almost on the beat to the song.

I was wondering if I should perform a service for the mainstream and break down some of the touch down dances on my blog so your people won't feel left out. Worthwhile endeavor?

Head Chick, you are obviously so much more than a great nome de plume. Please favor us.

By the way, the song is actually called, "We Fly High." They scream "Ballin!" during the chorus. See how much I know...

Gotta disagree with Head Chick in Charge.

I think the jumpshot celebration was clearly inspired by the song "I Love Rock & Roll" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

I have no evidence to support this. But I love talking shit so much. Go Redskins!

yeah its all from the "we fly high" song. in the video the diplomats (jim jones', uh, companions) do the jump shot, and if you check www.capostatus.com you can see a "highlight" video they made of strahan and company doing that shit and mr. jones even released a "giants" remix of the song.
