Scott Baker, one of the more overlooked Twins young arms won't be overlooked for much longer. He pitched a sensational game tonight, with a perfect game going into the 9th.
Some tough calls from the ump resulted in the perfect game getting broken up by a walk at the top of the 9th, followed by a bloop single by stupid, evil Mike Sweeney to ruin the no-hitter.
But regardless, Scotty pitched a hell of game. The Royals looked pretty confused most of the night, offering at fastballs up around head level, and sliders that were practically in the dirt.
So, caps doffed in the direction of the young pitcher who looks even younger. When I see Baker pitch, I have to make sure I'm not watching Rookie of the Year. Baker looks like he's 13, is what I'm saying.
On the other hand, it is exactly performances like this that will lead to Johan Santana getting traded. If the Twins feel like they can be competitive with a rotation of Liriano, Garza, Baker, Bonser, and maybe Slowey, they will get what they can for Santana in a heartbeat.
