IDYFT Interactive Poll

With everyone else on the planet weighing in on Brett Favre joining the Vikings, it seemed appropriate to ask the IDYFT family what they thought. After all, we are the most clever, good-looking, prescient and delightful of sports fans. I promise I will not release the results of this informal poll to the Department of Homefield Security.

Please reveal your hyperbolic prediction in the comments section. Then I can make a graph or pie chart or Bill Cosby sweater out of the results.

POLL QUESTION
Brett Favre has reneged his retirement for the third time. Now he is joining the Vikings. From the Vikings' point of view ...

1. This will take the Vikings deep into the playoffs, probably to the Superbowl.
2. This will destroy the Vikings this year, get Childress fired and slam shut the team's window of opportunity for the next ten years.
3. This will neither help them make the playoffs nor hinder them next year.

I choose 2, this move destroys the Vikings.

The Vikes were set up to develop a QB the easy way, with the NFL's pansiest early schedule. They could have built a lead on the dreadful division, gained desperately-needed QB experience and edged into position for a legitimate run next year.

Instead, the offense will struggle early and be desperate late. Subtraction by addition, and the results will gut a team that was doing the best job in the division of building for an eventual run.

I pick 3. I don't think Brett will make it through the season, opening the door for Sage who may learn a few things from the old fellow. And even if Brett does manage to play 16 games again he does not guarantee them any play-offs or success. You can't ignore the fact the Vikings do not have a receiver who has ever had a 1000+ yard receiving season.

With the cupcake schedule and a poor division I had picked the Vikes to win 11 games this year. With Favre in the fold, I don't think he'll make much of a dramatic impact and I see us now at 12 victories for the season and a first round bye. He'll help us win our first playoff game, thus giving Childress yet another year to ruin a fairly solid team, but we'll once again crap out in the NFC title game against an NFC East team.

Oh, I hope it's 2.

I'm going to go with unoffered choice 4--Favre is enough to get them playoffs, and maybe win one game.

He retires, and they are right back where they were.

That assumes, of course, that he finishes the season, which I'm unsure he will.

News out of camp is that MN receivers can't catch a ball thrown by a 39 year old who just had shoulder surgery. Nice.

3. Just imagining how utterly despondent those drunk cheeseheads are makes me smile, so I'm all for it though.

How about Favre will get hurt soon after the season starts and all that money will be like money down the toilet...
