Oh, Star Tribune Columnists--You So Stupid Part 1

In my next post, I'll talk about Jim Souhan's overly pissy column that some could call flat-out bitchy. We'll get to that. Real quick though, I also want to mention Grandpa Simpson's Sid Hartman's recent discovery that the Twins would be better off if they had kept Santana and Torii "Gates of Shinto" Hunter. (For some reason, he also includes the David Garza/Jason Bartlett deal--I've never understood people who bitch about that deal, and I can't spare the time now to fathom their argument. Sid's argument boils down to who's hitting at a higher percentage, and other ridiculously simplistic measuring sticks.)

Dear Sid: You seem to have forgotten that the Twins offered a huge chunk of change to Johann Santana--if memory serves, something along the lines of 5 years, $100 million dollars. Should they have offered more than that? They also offered Torii "Gates of Shinto" Hunter a pantload of money but it couldn't compare to what the Angels offered (who added two years to the deal, and doubled the amount of money). Hunter was blown away by the offer, I believe he may have even described himself as shocked. Santana and Hunter, in the first years of their new deals would have cost the Twins almost $40 million dollars. That's never going to happen, and you know what? I'm OK with that.

This team has some problems, no doubt. But they just picked up a pitcher who is 5-1 in the AL Central this year with an ERA well under 3.00. Carlos Gomez has been hitting really really well of late. It's a young team. And Joe Mauer Got His Man-Muscles.
