Au Revoir Mssr. Strong

I ran across this story today and was saddened to learn that one of the best names to ever play in the National Football League is being forced to retire after 15 years due to a spinal injury. Mack Strong happened to be a pretty damn good fullback and football player too. It is my hope that the NFL will be a little more helpful to the players of his generation that suffer debilitating injuries, then they have to those who have come before him.
Running headlong into a linebacker or a defensive lineman is a tough assignment, so to do it several dozen times a week for 15 years is a real accomplishment and more than enough to make a real bad MOFO in any era. Mack Strong a fullback not only in name, but practice, I wish you happiness, and an occasional bar brawl to keep up appearances, in your retirement.

Mack Strong is one of the old guard, who played for one team (the Seahawks, unfortunately) for his entire career.

He lived up to his name, and his lead-blocking is responsible for S. Alexander's success on the ground. That would be 9,000 yards in 7 years with the same lead-blocking FB.

I met Mack Strong once at church. It was one of the few times in my life that I have ever gone, but Strong went every Sunday (in the offseason of course.)
I'll miss seeing him on Sundays during the season. He was truly a man among boys.
The Hawks are in trouble.
