Straight Cash, Homey

On Sunday, the Raiders traded Rany Maw to the NE Patriots for a mere 4th round draft pick. As a Raider fan its hard not to feel a bit mournful about the idea that one the preeminent talents in the NFL (who has recently run a 4.29 forty) is no longer on your team. Then again its hard not to be relieved that Randy is on his way to greener pastures while saving the team $10 million in salary cap space, and almost certainly bolstering their 31 year old coach's credibility among the remaining players in the process. The one area of the Raiders offense that wasn't lacking in talent was the wide recieving corp, and considering the fact that Randy forced the Raider's hand, shipping him to a division far, far away is not an all together bad result.

Its easy to scoff at the fourth round pick that Oaktown got in return. But considering that it was an open secret that he was going to be released if a deal wasn't consummated, the fact that they acquired a talented, project corner back is not all that terrible. The most vexing part of this entire process is that the Green Bay Packers apparently could have acquired Moss (they had the cap space even if Randy didn't restructure) if they'd been willing to give up a 4th round pick. Now, I've been under the assumption that Randy had fervently stated that he wouldn't play for any team but the Pats. But the more I hear about the way the trade went down, that simply wasn't the case.

In light of this revelation, I'd like to thank the management of the Green Bay Packers for passing on Randy Moss. Had they not done this, I would feel alone in my angst every time Randy caught an 80 yard pass, or made a ridiculously athletic catch. Now I can share my pain with the fans of the GBP. What a truly magnanimous gesture. Now, if only I could find someone to share my pain every time Troy Williamson singlehandedly wins a game for the Vikings, I might be able to forget the entire ugly trade ever happened.

On a completely unrelated note:

While I despise any deal that would force me into: a) feeling pain at a Viking's win, or b) feeling some connection with Dr. Norwood, I feel comfortable saying here and now that I will gladly share your pain every time that Troy Williamson single-handedly wins a game for the Vikings.***

Incidentally, I will also share your pain every time that Al Davis is named NFL executive of the year, every time Eric Booker beats Kobayashi in the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, and every time the KC Royals win a World Series.

*** Offer rescinded if Troy Williamson is playing for a different NFL team thus significantly increasing his ability to single-handedly win a game for the Vikings.

They'll never give the award to Davis because they always give it to the nominal GM. For instance a few years ago Bruce Allen won the award, smart guy.

Hey I just thought of something. I can pretend that the Rany Maw trade never happened, the Raiders kept their 7th overall pick, and selected Mike Williams. Now both the Vikings & the Raiders can have top ten WR busts on their respective squads. Yours is blind and has manos de piedra, and mine is lazy & eats McDonald's quarterpounders every day. Thats a good thing, right?

I guess we can assume dear old Reid isn't one of our readers.

My very first acid trip was with Reid.

Go ahead with you wise-ass comments. I still dated Sally and you didn't.

You can live off that one for the rest of your life. And I can't blame you if you did.
