Great Goals: Stan Collymore

Stan Collymore is probably the player most often assigned the adjective of "enigmatic", with the possible exception of Paul Gascoigne.

Collymore was smart, deadly smart. He admitted to suffering from depression back when mental illness had a huge stigma (all the way back in 1991). He's a bit of an adventurer when it comes to sex (unapologetically so) and has been known to simulate sex with Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct 2). He also had a tendency to rock the Premiership for like 6 games in a row, and then disappear for 5 games, and then rock again for, let's say, 3 games. And then disappear for two. Stan Collymore was a hard man to love, if he was on your favorite team. If he wasn't on your favorite team, then you absolutely loved him, unless he was playing your favorite team. Because he might show up, pump in an absolute screamer, and jog off.

The best way to be a Stan Collymore fan was to just love Football, and admire his skills, when he decided to display them.

This Goal was his Leicester City Debut, and it was a nasty one-touch, 20 yard distant half volley on a full run. For those of you who think that soccer isn't much of a sport, try doing this:

But no mention of his absurd comeback "attempt" ?? You make him sound like a nice guy. I applaud him for admitting his illness but he was also the epitome of the overpaid and conceited footballer, back when those type of players were just starting to crop up. -Sanford

An "adventurer when it comes to sex"? I hope thats not a reference to "dogging", cause I think thats de rigueur in most sophisticated circles.
