I Dislike Your Favorite Team

A short while ago, we here at IDYFT were invited to participate in a Super Bowl blogger prediction party. True to form, not one of us participated. We are lazy. But still, a prediction should be made.

I can't speak for everyone on the blog, but this Super Bowl is rather painful for me. I can't remember the last time I really didn't want either team to win. I've rooted for teams; I've rooted against teams; I've been rather neutral on occasion. But I usually end up rooting for someone.

I am, first and foremost, a fan of the Washington Drunken Savages. Therefore, I hate the Giants. I HATE THEM. When Phil Simms showed up on The A Daily Show, and Jon Stewart told him what a huge fan he was of him, I found myself, for the first time in my life, hating Jon Stewart. I love Jon Stewart. But when he professed Giant-Love, he crossed a fucking line in my book. So rooting for the Giants is straight out.

I didn't always hate the Patriots. When I spent a few years of my childhood in Connecticut, I didn't abandon the Drunken Savages, but I watched a few Patriots games, and was rooting for them when they got destroyed by Chicago in that one Super Bowl. But this incarnation of them? With their hip uniforms, and helmets that don't feature the Patriot in a tri-corner cap, and cheat like crazy and still lauded as America's New Team? Fuck that shit. This organization is dirty from the top down, and in 20 years, we'll find out just how many of these overperforming veterans were dosed to their gills on HGH. Rooting for the Patriots is straight out, too.

So my prediction is one of the most logical, cold-blooded ones I've ever made. Clearly, the Patriots are better than the Giants. NY backers are seemingly blind that Eli Manning's recent improvement may have something to do with the fact that he was playing against NFC defenses, and that his defense wasn't playing AFC Offenses. I can think of 5 teams in the AFC that I'd pick to beat the Giants Sunday. The Patriots are at the top of that list.
